Growing up, I always liked a clean, organized and creative space. I was always trying to think of ways to enhance my bedroom and add some “spice”. I loved a good color scheme and my favorite thing to do was to design a picture wall… and no, my mom and dad did not approve. When I got older and moved out for good, I still loved all things organization and color coordination, but after having a full time job and a family of my own, I didn’t have a whole lot of extra time or the mental capacity for those old hobbies.
Fun Fact: I graduate from ECU with a Bachelors Degree for Middle Grades Education.
I got married in the year of 2022 and going into it, I had no clue of what a good wedding should entail. For some reason, it didn’t register with me that I might would need to higher a planner… So, I purchased an Erin Condren Wedding Planner and got to planning.
I had no clue as to what that experience was going to lead me to… but oh am I so thankful!
About 6 months before my wedding, my mama asked me who I was going to have direct my wedding day. I told her that I honestly didn’t know that was a thing and at that point, I didn’t care who did it. MY BRAIN WAS FRIED! It turns out that a community friend, and one of my absolutely favorite people from elementary school, worked weddings for those that she knew. I sent her a message one day and that was it, she was stuck with me :). When I tell you that she was an angel sent from above for my wedding day, that is exactly what I mean! She took care of ALL details. There were even questions that she would ask and I had no clue that I would need an answer to. I was amazed at all of the specifics that go into a wedding ceremony and reception. On the day of my wedding, Mrs. Donna helped decorate, organize people and keep me calm and excited. I remember so vividly her attire and how she held herself; poised and professional. For moments, here and there, I would catch myself looking at her work and think to myself, “I wonder if I could do that”. HOWEVER, when my wedding day was over, I didn’t think I would ever want to do that again! Boy, was I wrong.
Of course I am going to show you more, but for today, here is a glimpse at our wedding day.
A few months passed and the wedding stress was completely over. And then one day, a very good friend of mine reached out for advice on how to plan her wedding. I gave her some of my beginner advice and quickly said, “If you need help, I can help you with the planning.” At that time, I didn’t think she would be interested due to my lack of experience, but she jumped right on it. So from that point on, it was her and I making the decisions. We worked together to book her venue and I gave her my recommendations for a cake baker and photographer, to which she ended up booking. Honestly, while helping her wedding plan, I never (not once) stressed. I was confident in our choices and as long as she was satisfied, that’s all that mattered. That experience opened up a side of me that I never saw coming. It also allowed for me to dabble in my old hobbies, which I believe helps me be a better wife and mama.
During the process of planning Victoria’s wedding, I decided to make a Facebook post that I would be booking dates for weddings, if anyone was interested. SO MANY PEOPLE WERE INTERESTED! While I booked a few weddings, I never thought that it would be what it is now. I currently have 13 weddings booked for the next few months, which is such an accomplishment for me. I am so thankful for all of the people that I have met along the way and all that I have learned. I have truly learned so much and have a huge love for the wedding industry.
If you made it this far, I want to give you the biggest and most sincere THANK YOU! I am so excited for the future of TaylorBWeddings.
XOXO,
Taylor B Sholar
